Is
my dog to old to be trained?
No.
There is no maximum age. We have trained
9-10 year old dogs with much success. At Tidewater K-9, we like to start
formal training at four months of age. We have found over the years
that it is better to teach the right way from the beginning.
Do
you train all breeds?
Yes,
we do. We have trained over 25,000 dogs
of all types, ages, breeds, and sizes.
Do
you believe in spanking dogs?
No,
No, No! It is NEVER okay to hit a dog or puppy. Spanking does not teach,
but builds fear and anger.
Can
you teach a dog not to jump on people?
Most
definitely. We stress manners at our school. We will teach you ways
to eliminate jumping, rude sniffing, bolting out of the door, etc.
Do
you teach housebreaking?
Yes,
we believe in using a crate as a housebreaking tool. We will teach you
to housebreak your dog. Consistency is key!
You have 24 hour live on site managers. Why can't I pick up my dogs whenever I arrive?
After hours, our on-site managers are here to provide security and safety for your pets in boarding as well as to respond in case of an emergency. Please understand, that we are here 365 days a year taking car of our boarding pets. Outside business hours, there are other tasks we must attend to keep our facility ready for your pets and to best serve you. In addition, our hard working team of professionals and care givers need their time off work, just as you do, to refresh themselves and take care of their personal lives. So please understand, just because you see someone on premises, does not mean they are available to open the facility and conduct business.
Do
you offer group classes?
Yes,
we do. We have group classes, semi-private
classes, and one-on-one private classes. We can even come to your home
for private classes. We also offer boarding school where we keep your
dog and train him or her. Then we transfer the training to you.
Where
can I board my dog?
Tidewater
K-9 operates a boarding facility
in Chesapeake. We also do training classes at our kennel. Our facility has on-site staff
to provide full care for your dog. While boarding, we provide outdoor
exercise, nutritional food, and lots of educated TLC.
Do
you offer grooming?
Yes,
we have a groomer on staff. We also offer
bathing, nail clipping, and brushing.
Do
you board cats?
Yes,
our Chesapeake kennel, Tidewater K-9 Inn is equipped with a cat room
and cat condos to provide TLC for your feline friends.
Can
you help us with canine nutritional advice?
Yes,
we have a vast knowledge in canine nutrition. We can advise you in selecting
a well balanced nutritional food for your dog. We sell chicken necks
and raw marrow bones which are some of the components in our own personal
dogs diets. We sell a great variety of premium dog, puppy, and cat foods and treats.
Do
you carry retail supplies?
Yes,
we have quite a few professionally recommended items
such as brushes, beds, flea products, leashes, collars, and toys. We
also have some beautiful embroidered shirts, pillows, and bags. We even
have dog collectibles!
Can
you train my dog to walk without a leash?
Yes,
we can. This is an advanced level of training so we must first teach
the dog commands using the leash. After this understanding has been
developed, the leash is gradually removed to develop off leash learning.
We believe for off leash command, certainty is required for your dogs
safety.
